Central Meeting and April General Meeting - This Wednesday

The following update is provided by LSRFUR General Secretary, Peter Coulthard.

Further to my email at the back end of last month, we have our first in person Central Meeting in a number of years (which will also double up as the April General Meeting) this Wednesday, starting at 7pm (though you can arrive earlier, we have the room from about 5:30pm). It will be in the Wood Lecture Room at the University of Westminster (Marylebone Campus), 35 Marylebone Road, London NW1 5LS - nearest tube is Baker Street a whole 2 minutes away.

Post meeting food (funded by the Society) has been arranged at a nearby pub, so please do come down to the meeting and enjoy some food and drink afterwards with friends and other members.

The meeting will cover:

  • The April General Meeting, which will ratify the Regional Manager elections, and any other business communicated to me in advance (so brief Q&A).

  • Our Central Meeting topic is about Celebrating & Learning from London Society members' development.

    • We are massively grateful to Calum Howard, Simon Waite and Mike Lamb who have agreed to form part of a panel for the evening. They will be giving a brief overview of their officiating journey through the Society and onto the Panel (and in Calum's case further onto the PGMOT AR Panel, with some added thoughts from James Cornell who progressed through the AR route onto the PGMOT AR panel too).

    • Following that, there will be some Q&A, moderated by our own Alexis Manley (himself a former Panel referee), to talk about their development journey, the pathways available, and some of the challenges they have faced as the pyramid narrows towards the top.

    • This will be an open and interactive session, with some great insights from those who have faced different challenges and have had different routes towards the top of the game.

    • It should be a great opportunity to probe them on some of their experiences, and to take away some high quality learnings into your own game and your own personal journey to where you want to get to.

This promises to be an exciting discussion, and another great opportunity to get together (something we haven't had the ability to do in a Central Meeting context for a few years now with Covid). As always, any questions, please do let me know. If you have never been to a Central Meeting before but want to come (but are a little bit unsure, or uncertain you will know anyone) - again, please do get in touch with me, your Regional Manager (or others in the Society that you know). Always great to see and meet new faces - so anything we can do to make the experience easier, do shout.

Finally, there will be the opportunity to get your DBS check done if needed too - again please do try to let me know in advance, and ensure you have followed the process (and ideally downloaded the form) set out at https://www.londonrugby.com/dbs.

See you Wednesday,

Peter
