Return to Community Rugby

THE FOLLOWING UPDATE IS PROVIDED BY LSRFUR TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT OFFICER - NICK COUSINS.

I have recently received an update from the RFU, the main points of which I have bullet pointed below:

  • Please note the Return to Community Rugby Roadmap has been revised to follow steps on the government roadmap. Please therefore disregard previous versions and only share/use the new ‘green for go’ roadmap

  • Stages B and C have been removed as they are no longer relevant due to changes in government restrictions.

  • The Return to Play Stage D resources have now been refreshed and updated.

  • Over the next couple of weeks, we will provide further stage-by-stage guidance for Return to Rugby - as it becomes available - which will include all the information and guidance needed for our gradual return to contact rugby.

  • The focus for all activity over the next three months should be on match official engagement, retention and player safety.

  • The Match Official Developers returned to work from furlough on 15/03/2021. They will be fully engaged on the proposed ‘Ways of Working’ summarized in the attached slide deck.

While we are all incredibly excited about getting back out on the pitch, we should also be conscious of the need to build-up gradually after a long lay-off. But the main point is that soon, we will be able to resume training and, subject to each step on government’s roadmap being achieved, progress towards contact fixtures and an exciting season of rugby for 2021/22 from September.
